In pursuit of B. A. L. A. N. C. E.

Aren’t we always trying to juggle and balance multiple things at a single moment in time? How many of us are constantly wishing we could have more balance in our lives? Balance in managing our careers, family life, children, relationships, social commitments etc. Wow. It looks like we have it all…but we feel stretched. Then comes in the stress on where should we focus our time on? More on the family vs the career? Pair down on our favourite activity that brings so much joy?

To me, balance is not something to achieve - after all, we worked so hard to bring all these elements to enrich our lives and experiences. So, can we have it all then? Well, personally I feel YES, we can. Although, this may look different to everyone. What if we just re-focused on what is more critical to us, just for a period in time? Perhaps, today, we have children who need us and our time, and so, investing ourselves in this brings us greater fulfillment? And, how about that career aspirer who just landed the most amazing opportunity of a lifetime, who also has young children?

Two things come to mind - One, look deep in yourself and ask yourself what would bring you the most joy in this present moment. Two, if you pursued that, could you get some support in the other areas, whilst you pursued your choice?

If we can structure our thinking to looking at ourselves in a moment in time, and allow ourselves the freedom to choose what is important, and at the same time find a solution to not dropping the ball on other areas, then perhaps we can have some sort of balance? More like choosing to focus a bit more on aspect over the other, but at the same time having our sights on all balls in the air. Easier said than done - But, doesn’t it just make you feel better that you get to choose?
